Depth to Bedrock: Greater than 60 inches
Depth to Seasonal High Water Table: 0 to 12 inches, December to May
Soil Reaction: Strongly acid to extremely acid in the upper part of the particle-size control section and moderately acid to mildly alkaline

Oap or Oa1 horizon:
Color--hue of 5YR to 2.5Y, or it is neutral, value of 2 or 3, and chroma of 0 to 2
Texture--muck
Other Features--in drained areas, it has weak to moderate medium subangular blocky structure. The unrubbed fiber content ranges from 2 to 20 percent and the rubbed fiber content ranges from 0 to 4 percent. Charcoal fragments and pockets of ash are few to common in some pedons.

Oa2 horizon
Color--hue of 2.5YR to 2.5Y, or it is neutral, value of 2 or 3, and chroma of 0 to 4.

A horizon(if it occurs):
Color--has hue of 10YR to 5Y or is neutral, value of 3 to 4, and chroma of 0 to 2
Texture--loam, clay loam, mucky clay loam, silty clay loam, or sandy clay loam or their mucky analogues

Bg horizon
Color--hue of 10YR to 5Y or is neutral, value of 3 to 6, and chroma of 0 to 2.
Texture--clay loam, clay, or silty clay
Redoximorphic Features--Few to common masses of iron accumulation in shades of brown, yellow, or red are present in some pedons.

SERIES ESTABLISHED: Washington County, North Carolina; 1979.

REMARKS: Diagnostic horizons and soil characteristics recognized in the typical pedon are:
Histic epipedon -the zone from the surface to a depth of 15 inches
Cambic horizon -the zone between 26 and 36 inches (Bg2 horizon)
Aquic soil conditions -indicated by the presence of dominant colors in shades of gray that are iron depletions (Bg1, Bg2, Bg3, and 2Cg horizons)
