TAXONOMIC CLASS: Sandy, mixed Aquic Haplocryepts

TYPICAL PEDON: Scidmore sandy loam, forested, on a pitted outwash plain, on a slope of 1 percent at an elevation of 23 m (When described on August 7, 2013, the soil was moist from the surface layer to a depth of 50 cm and wet from a depth of 50 to 150 cm.)

Oe--0 to 3 cm; moderately decomposed plant material; moderately acid (pH 5.6); abrupt wavy boundary

A--3 to 9 cm; sandy loam, gray (10YR 5/1) dry, very dark gray (10YR 3/1) moist; moderate fine granular structure; soft, very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; common very fine, fine, coarse, and very coarse and many medium roots throughout; common very fine and fine irregular pores ; 5 percent rounded gravel; noneffervescent; neutral (pH 6.8); abrupt wavy boundary

Bw--9 to 31 cm; loamy sand, very pale brown (10YR 7/4) dry, yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) moist; 8 percent fine dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/6) mottles; moderate medium subangular blocky structure; slightly hard, friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; common fine, medium, coarse, and very coarse roots throughout; common very fine and fine interstitial pores; 6 percent rounded gravel; very slightly effervescent; moderately alkaline (pH 7.9); clear smooth boundary

C--31 to 50 cm; sand, light yellowish brown (2.5Y 6/3) dry, light olive brown (2.5Y 5/3) moist; single grain; soft, very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; common fine, medium, and coarse roots in upper part; common very fine and fine interstitial pores; 8 percent rounded gravel; slightly effervescent; moderately alkaline (pH 8.2); gradual wavy boundary

Cg--50 to 150 cm; coarse sand, gray (2.5Y 6/1) dry, gray (2.5Y 5/1) moist; single grain; loose, nonsticky and nonplastic; common very fine and fine interstitial pores; 8 percent masses of oxidized iron, dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/6) moist; 13 percent rounded gravel; slightly effervescent; moderately alkaline (pH 8.3)
