TYPICAL PEDON: Gustavus fine sandy loam, forested, on an outwash delta, on a slope of 3 percent at an elevation of 6 m (When described on July 29, 2014, the soil was moist throughout.)

Oe--0 to 12 cm; moderately decomposed plant material; extremely acid (pH 4.3); abrupt smooth boundary

Bw--12 to 33 cm; fine sandy loam, yellow (10YR 7/6) dry, yellowish brown (10YR 5/6) moist; moderate medium subangular blocky structure; soft, very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; common very fine, fine, medium, coarse, and very coarse roots throughout; common very fine and fine irregular pores; noneffervescent; moderately acid (pH 5.7); clear smooth boundary

C1--33 to 68 cm; loamy sand, pale yellow (2.5Y 8/3) dry, light yellowish brown (2.5Y 6/3) moist; massive; soft, very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; common fine, medium, coarse, and very coarse roots throughout; common very fine and fine interstitial pores; noneffervescent; moderately acid (pH 6.0); clear wavy boundary

C2--68 to 140 cm; loamy sand, pale yellow (2.5Y 8/3) dry, light yellowish brown (2.5Y 6/3) moist; 15 percent medium strong brown (7.5YR 5/6) mottles; massive; soft, very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; common medium roots throughout; common very fine and fine interstitial pores; very slightly effervescent (HCL, 1N); neutral (pH 6.6); abrupt smooth boundary

C3--140 to 150 cm; variegated coarse sand; single grain; loose, nonsticky and nonplastic; few very fine and fine interstitial pores; slight effervescent (HCL, 1N); neutral (pH 7.2)
