TAXONOMIC CLASS: Loamy-skeletal, mixed, superactive Pachic Haplocryolls
TYPICAL PEDON: Sweethollow very cobbly loam, on a southwest facing, 25 percent slope in forest at an elevation of 2,205 meters. (Colors are for dry soil unless otherwise noted.) The surface is covered by 5 percent stones.
Oe--0 to 4 cm; dark brown (7.5YR 3/2) moderately decomposed plant material, black (5YR 2.5/1) moist; neutral (pH 7.2); abrupt smooth boundary. (2 to 9 cm thick)
A--4 to 18 cm; very dark brown (7.5YR 2.5/2) very cobbly loam, black (7.5YR 2.5/1) moist; weak fine granular structure; soft, very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; many very fine and common fine, medium and coarse roots; many very fine irregular pores; 20 percent gravel and 30 percent cobbles; neutral (pH 6.6); clear wavy boundary. (3 to 19 cm thick)
AB--18 to 30 cm; dark brown (10YR 3/3) extremely cobbly loam, dark brown (7.5YR 3/2) moist; weak fine subangular blocky structure; soft, very friable, slightly sticky and nonplastic; many very fine and common fine, medium and coarse roots; many very fine irregular pores; 20 percent gravel and 40 percent cobbles; neutral (pH 6.6); clear wavy boundary. (0 to 24 cm thick)
Bw--30 to 50 cm; brown (10YR 5/3) extremely cobbly fine sandy loam, dark brown (7.5YR 3/3) moist; weak fine subangular blocky structure; soft, very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; common very fine, fine and medium roots; many very fine irregular pores; 30 percent gravel, 40 percent cobbles and 10 percent stones; moderately acid (pH 5.6); clear wavy boundary. (20 to 60 cm thick)
C1--50 to 79 cm; pale brown (10YR 6/3) extremely gravelly fine sandy loam, dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) moist; single grain; loose, nonsticky and nonplastic; few very fine and fine roots; many fine irregular pores; 40 percent gravel, 20 percent cobbles and 5 percent stones; moderately acid (pH 5.6); gradual wavy boundary. (20 to 35 cm thick)
C2--79 to 152 cm; pale brown (10YR 6/3); extremely gravelly fine sandy loam, dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) moist; single grain; loose, nonsticky and nonplastic; few very fine and fine roots; many fine irregular pores; 45 percent gravel, 15 percent cobbles and 2 percent stones; moderately acid (pH 5.6).
TYPE LOCATION: Teton County, Idaho; about 7.8 kilometers east of Driggs; located about 574 meters east and 573 meters north of the southwest corner of sec. 33, T. 44 N., R. 118 W.; Driggs USGS quad; lat. 43 degrees 43 minutes 49.3 seconds N. and long. 111 degrees 0 minutes 51.6 seconds W., NAD 83.

GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS: These are the Dranyon, Ezbin, and Game(T)(ID) series. The Dranyon soils have a fine-loamy particle size class and are in concave swales. The Ezbin soils have an argillic horizon and are on linear positions. The Game soils have an argillic horion and are on north facing slopes.
DRAINAGE AND PERMEABILITY: Well drained, high runoff, moderate permeability in the upper part and rapid permeability in the lower part.
USE AND VEGETATION: The major uses are wood products, livestock grazing and wildlife habitat. The native plant community is Douglas-fir and aspen with an understory of mountain snowberry, sticky geranium and pinegrass.
DISTRIBUTION AND EXTENT: Sweethollow soils are of small extent in southeastern Idaho and western Wyoming; MLRA 43B.
