TYPICAL PEDON: Tahkeal ashy sandy loam in an area of forestland, on a 2-percent slope at an elevation of 850 m (All textures are apparent field textures.)

Oi--0 to 8 cm; forest litter of slightly decomposed needles, leaves, and twigs

A--8 to 25 cm; ashy sandy loam, dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) dry, dark brown (10YR 3/3) moist; weak fine granular structure; soft, very friable, nonsticky and nonplastic; many very fine, fine, and medium roots; common very fine irregular pores; 5 percent gravel; slightly acid (pH 6.5), NaF pH 10.7; clear smooth boundary
