TYPICAL PEDON: Astrolable sandy clay loam on a tidal marsh, on a slope of 0 percent at sea level (When described on July 02, 2013, the soil was wet throughout.)

Cg1--0 to 25 cm; sandy clay loam, light olive gray (5Y 6/2) dry, olive gray (5Y 4/2) moist; massive; slightly hard, friable, slightly sticky and slightly plastic; common very fine and coarse roots throughout; few very fine and fine interstitial pores; 15 percent coarse masses of reduced iron, dark gray (2.5Y 4/1) moist, and 20 percent coarse masses of oxidized iron, strong brown (7.5YR 4/6) moist; 10 percent coarse gravel; moderately saline (electrical conductivity of 14 dS/m); neutral (pH 7.2); abrupt smooth boundary

Cg2--25 to 150 cm; variegated very gravelly coarse sand; single grain; loose, nonsticky and nonplastic; common very fine, fine, and medium roots; few very fine interstitial pores; 60 percent coarse gravel; strongly saline (electrical conductivity of 16 dS/m); slightly alkaline (pH 7.5)
