SHOREWOOD SERIES

The Shorewood series consists of very deep, moderately well drained and somewhat poorly drained soils that formed in clayey glacial lacustrine sediments and underlying loamy calcareous till, sometimes beginning below the series control section, on glacial lake plains and moraines. Slopes range from 0 to 12 percent. Mean annual precipitation ranges from 610 to 930 milimeters. Mean annual air temperature is about 8 degrees C.

2Cg--114 to 200 centimeters; grayish brown (2.5Y 5/2) loam; common fine distinct light olive brown (2.5Y 5/6) Fe concentrations; massive with some horizontal cleavages; about 5 percent gravel; strongly effervescent; slightly alkaline (pH 7.6).

Chase and Tina--formed in alluvium and on stream terraces or flood plains
Greenton--formed in loess and residuum, and has a redder hue in the lower B horizons
Martin--has a 61-91cm thick mollic epipedon and has lower horizons formed in residuum.
Lamoni--formed in loess or pedisediment over paleosol till
Macksburg and Mahaska--have a depth to carbonates that is greater than 150cm
Mayberry--has a redder hue and typically more sand.
