TAXONOMIC CLASS: Fine, smectitic, mesic Aquertic Argiudolls
TYPICAL PEDON: Wymore silty clay loam - on a 4 percent convex southwest-facing slope in a cultivated field. When described the soil was moist throughout. (Colors are for moist soil unless otherwise stated.)
Ap--0 to 13 centimeters; very dark brown (10YR 2/2) silty clay loam, dark gray (10YR 4/1) dry; weak medium granular structure; slightly hard; friable; moderately acid; abrupt smooth boundary. (10 to 25 centimeters thick)
BA--13 to 23 centimeters; very dark brown (10YR 2/2) silty clay, very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) dry; moderate very fine blocky structure; hard, firm; thin continuous clay films on faces of peds; moderately acid; clear smooth boundary. (0 to 13 centimeters thick)
Bt1--23 to 43 centimeters; very dark grayish brown (10YR 3/2) silty clay, dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2) dry; moderate medium and fine blocky structure; hard, firm; thin continuous clay films on faces of peds; moderately acid; clear smooth boundary.
Bt2--43 to 64 centimeters; dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2) silty clay, dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) dry; moderate medium and fine blocky structure; hard, firm; thin continuous clay films on faces of peds; few fine distinct reddish brown (5YR 5/4) and dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) iron masses; slightly acid; gradual smooth boundary.
Bt3--64 to 81 centimeters; grayish brown (2.5Y 5/2) silty clay, brown (10YR 5/3) dry; moderate medium blocky structure; hard, firm; thin continuous clay films on faces of peds; common fine distinct dark yellowish brown (10YR 4/4) iron masses; slightly acid; clear smooth boundary. (Combined thickness of Bt horizon is 58 to 99 centimeters thick.)
Bt4--81 to 102 centimeters; mixed olive brown (2.5Y 4/4) and grayish brown (2.5Y 5/2) silty clay loam; grayish brown (2.5Y 5/2) and light brownish gray (2.5Y 6/2) dry; moderate medium and fine blocky structure; slightly hard, friable; thin discontinuous clay films on faces of peds; common fine reddish brown (5YR 4/4) iron-manganese concretions; few fine distinct yellowish brown (10YR 5/4) iron masses; neutral; clear smooth boundary. (20 to 30 centimeters thick)
C--102 to 135 centimeters; gray (5Y 5/1) silty clay loam, light brownish gray (2.5Y 6/2) dry; weak medium and coarse blocky structure; slightly hard, friable; few fine pipe-like iron concretions; few carbonate concretions; neutral; abrupt smooth lower boundary. (18 to 36 centimeters thick)
Ab--135 to 160 centimeters; brown (7.5YR 4/2) silty clay loam, brown (10YR 5/3) dry; weak fine platy structure; soft, very friable; neutral.
TYPE LOCATION: Pawnee County, Nebraska; about 1.6 kilometers east and 1.6 kilometers south of Pawnee City; 357 meters west, 177 meters south of northeast corner, sec. l, T. 1 N., R. 11 E. USGS Pawnee City topographic quadrangle; lat. 40 degrees, 5 minutes, 9.1 seconds N. and long. 96 degrees, 7 minutes, 40.2 seconds W., NAD83.

Thickness of the solum: 84 to 203 centimeters.

Arisburg, Arispe and Mahaska soils average 35 to 42 percent clay in the particle size control section.
Chase and Martin soils have a mollic epipedon more than 51 centimeters thick.
Grundy and Seymour soils are moist in the soil moisture control section for longer periods during the growing season.
Good Thunder soils formed in lacustrine sediments on glacial lake plains.
Mayberry soils contain more than 5 percent sand throughout the particle size control section and have hue redder than 10YR in the argillic horizon.
Lagonda soils contain more than 5 percent sand in the lower part of the series control section.
Lamoni and Tina soils are moderately acid in the lower part of the argillic horizon.
Shorewood soils typically have carbonates at depths of 71 to 127 centimeters.

GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS: These are the
Pawnee and
Shelby.
Pawnee and Shelby soils are lower than Wymore soils on the landscape and formed in glacial till.
DRAINAGE AND SATURATED HYDRAULIC CONDUCTIVITY:
Drainage: moderately well drained
Runoff: low or medium
Saturated hydraulic conductivity: low
Seasonal high water saturation zone: 30 to 91 centimeters in the spring.
USE AND VEGETATION: Most areas of Wymore soils are cultivated.
Wheat, corn, soybeans and sorghum are the principal crops.
Native vegetation is mostly tall and some mid grasses.
DISTRIBUTION AND EXTENT: Wymore soils are extensive in southeastern Nebraska and adjacent parts of Kansas. The acreage is of large extent.

"Range in Characteristics" and Frost Free period to "Geographic Setting". Added words, slightly alkaline, to reaction class of C horizon based on NSSL data.
Modified format by LRM in 2/2006 to include metric conversion and change permeability to saturated hydraulic conductivity.
09/2008 GJJ converted Celsius to Fahrenheit and made some format changes.

Wymore was modified 12/12/2003 to remove slopes greater than 9 percent and to clarify depths to pedisediment and glacial till.
