Oa--0 to 8 centimeters (0 to 3 inches); very dark brown (7.5YR 2.5/2), dark brown (7.5YR 3/3), dry; highly decomposed plant material; friable, soft, nonsticky, nonplastic; common fine and medium roots throughout; very strongly acid (pH 4.9); abrupt smooth boundary. (5 to 15 cm, 2 to 6 in thick)

C1--8 to 18 centimeters (3 to 7 inches); light gray (10YR 7/2), pinkish white (7.5YR 8/2), dry; ashy silt loam; weak fine granular structure; very friable, soft, nonsticky, nonplastic; common (2.0) very fine, fine, and medium roots throughout; common very fine and fine irregular pores; moderately acid (pH 5.7); clear smooth boundary.

C2--18 to 26 centimeters (7 to 10 inches); light brown (7.5YR 6/4) ashy silt loam; weak fine granular structure; friable, soft, nonsticky, nonplastic; common very fine, fine, few medium throughout; common very fine irregular and common fine pores; fragments; strongly acid (pH 5.5); abrupt smooth boundary.

C3--26 to 34 centimeters (10 to 13 inches); 95 percent light brown (7.5YR 6/4) and 5 percent strong brown (7.5YR 4/6) ashy sand; single grain; loose, nonsticky, nonplastic; common very fine, fine, and few medium roots throughout; common very fine interstitial and common fine pores; moderately acid (pH 5.6); clear wavy boundary. (Combined thickness is 18 to 35 cm, 7 to 14 in thick)

2A--34 to 40 centimeters (13 to 16 inches); very dark gray (7.5YR 3/1) medial silt loam; weak fine angular blocky structure; friable, soft, nonsticky, nonplastic; common very fine, fine medium roots, and few coarse roots throughout; common very fine irregular and common fine pores; 9 percent gravel; very strongly acid (pH 4.8); clear smooth boundary. (3 to 13 cm, 1 to 5 in thick)

2Bhs1--40 to 49 centimeters (16 to 19 inches); dark reddish brown (5YR 2.5/2) highly organic medial silt loam; weak fine angular blocky structure; friable, slightly hard, nonsticky, nonplastic; common very fine, fine, medium, and few coarse roots throughout; common very fine irregular and common fine pores; 9 percent gravel; very strongly acid (pH 4.8); abrupt smooth boundary.

3C--66 to 80 centimeters (26 to 32 inches); dark grayish brown (10YR 4/2), dark grayish brown (2.5Y 4/2), dry; very gravelly coarse sandy loam; weak fine angular blocky structure; friable, slightly hard, nonsticky, slightly plastic; few fine roots throughout; common very fine and fine irregular pores; 40 percent gravel and 5 percent cobbles; strongly acid (pH 5.2); clear smooth boundary.
